Rain and Food

This morning brought more rain, which was promptly chased away by the sun around noon. Clouds still hung around all day, accompanied by a chilly breeze reminiscent of winter. My mood for the majority of the day was a reflection of the weather: sleepy and gray. I didn't think I'd stay awake for the hour long drive home, but needless to say, I did. All I wanted to do was lay on the couch and watch TV and I had to watch my favorite American Idol contestant, so I laid on the couch for an hour and a half, barely moving a muscle. All of my muscles hurt after my workouts the past two days. My muscles are hurting in places that I didn't know I even had muscles. For this very reason, I drug myself off of the couch and did my third day of the Wedding Workout. I felt quite energized after the vigorous upper arms and cardio session - the explanation for why I am still awake after such a sleepy day.

I decided to share my cooking adventure from last night. Cooking is definitely not my forte and I think Jamie would say the same about herself. However, we undertook cooking dinner for ourselves last night, scrounging up the random food items in her apartment's kitchen. We found the following: spaghetti noodles, Italian dressing, cheese, and asparagus. Now, individually these items sound less than promising. However, in just the right combination (with a little help from Kraft.com), they made the perfect main dish. I have attached a picture so you will be jealous of our amazing creation. The only word I could say for 15 minutes was "yum!". No joke. DELICIOUS! I think I will continue to experiment with cooking. Some day, people will be begging to eat my food :) (and Jamie's, of course!).

In other news, I have run out of free Pandora minutes for the month. I listen to Pandora on a consistent basis every month, but this is the first time I've ever used up 40 hours of listening time before the completion of a month. I have been spending a lot of hours studying lately, which have been accompanied by endless hours of Mumford & Sons, The Civil Wars, Ingrid Michelson, and Ben Rector. Gotta love the QuickMix option. Tomorrow, I shall hit the books hard. Don't worry, I won't hurt them :)

Zumba!

I am sore tonight! I did a 15 minute abs & core workout with my roommate Jamie after dinner, which is part of my wedding workout regimen. If you know me at all, you know that I consider 15 minutes a great workout. However, I didn't stop there. At school there is girls' night twice a month and tonight the activity was Zumba. Now, I tried Zumba once this past summer and it was not a good thing. I was the only person in the entire class who didn't know what she was doing (ultra embarrassing), but to top it off, I was the youngest person by about 20 years. Needless to say, I swore off Zumba for the rest of my life...until tonight. I thought it might be more fun since I would be with my friends and most of the girls had never done Zumba before. I was right! I am now in love with Zumba! I'm hoping that if I keep doing it my balance and coordination (and my dancing skills) will improve. If I can't walk tomorrow, everyone knows why!

In other news, I passed my large final today! I couldn't stop smiling for quite a while. I have a couple of other tests and papers, but this was the big test that I was anxious about for months. I am so thankful for all of the prayers that were offered to Jesus on my behalf - He heard them! In less than 3 weeks, I will graduate and move into the next season of my life. God is so good!

Tomorrow is my work day, Thursday is free, Friday is my last clinical of the semester. This weekend will be filled with more studying and hopefully some writing. I love that I've been blogging so often lately. Thanks for reading! Have a beautiful night and a splendid Wednesday!

And More Rain

I have been home since Wednesday night, since which time I can count on one hand the number of times I have left my house. Since Friday, it has done nothing but rain and storm and rain and storm outside. There have been a few pockets of time during which the sun shone and the sky breaked from crying, but those pockets have been few and far between. However, I have thoroughly enjoyed sitting on my bed and looking out the open window at the birds and squirrels playing outside. Most of my time this weekend has been spent in this position, trying to study but finding every possible excuse to be distracted from doing so. The cool breeze from the window is always happy, even though the sky is gray and the sun is hiding.

Church service yesterday was incredible. Our small building was bursting at the seams with visitors and the presence of the Lord was overwhelming. After church, my mom fixed a big meal of roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, homemade rolls, spinach salad, and fresh fruit. Yum! I felt full all day. I was so sleepy after lunch, I took a 4 hour nap in the afternoon - bliss!

Today, it is still raining. I have been semi-productive in spite of the sleepy weather. I worked out, studied, surfed the web. I am currently in the process of finding a relaxing vacation spot for after graduation. I can only be gone for a few days, but I would really like some time to just relax and rest before I rush into my busy summer. So far I haven't made much progress but hopefully I'll find somewhere soon!

Tomorrow is my big final. I started studying for this test at least 6 weeks ago, so hopefully my time will pay off. Right now, I must figure out how to get rid of this headache, shake off the sleepiness, and read the last 10 chapters of my book for the test. Enjoy your Monday, friends!

Iced Coffee Day

Today is my second day of Easter Break and I have to say it has been quite productive. I've been trying to spend time with Dad in the mornings before the busyness starts, which actually worked out this morning. It's amazing what a few minutes reading the Word can do to jumpstart the day! I also worked out this morning - something that has not happened for quite a while. I ordered a workout DVD on Amazon called "The Wedding Workout." Several people have laughed at me for this, but what's a girl to do when she has three weddings to get ready for? Even though they're not my weddings, I want to look smashing in those bridesmaid dresses! Today I did the first segment in the workout for short dresses. I figured lower body work wouldn't hurt no matter which dress I'm wearing first. Let me tell you - I am NOT a huge fan of squats and lunges. Oh, and I have terrible balance. The next few weeks should be quite interesting!

I studied a small bit after my workout and before lunch, though no matter how much I study it never seems like enough! The brothers and our friend Andrew who is spending the weekend with us went to an "earlybird" showing of the Conspirator this afternoon. Hip that the first showing of the day is $5.00! I shall be taking advantage of that deal often this summer! The movie is about the conspiracy to assassinate Abraham Lincoln, so of course my history buff brother Josiah had to see it. I have to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed it as well. Nate and Ben seemed quite taken in by it, but Andrew slept through almost the entire movie. It's amazing to me how interesting history can be - I might even read about the story myself!

When we got home it was very hot in the house. My solution? Iced coffee, of course! Following the recipe I found on another the blog, This Earthly Tent, I made coffee twice as strong as normal, poured it over ice, and added a splash of milk. YUM!

Now, I must resume studying for my big final Tuesday. I'm hoping that by studying a small amount every day I will be prepared. Hopefully tonight I'll find something hip to do. Looks like it's going to storm again! Have a beautiful weekend friends!

23 days until graduation! 3 tests, 2 papers, and 1 nursing care plan stand between me and my much-anticipated diploma. Hallelujah! As some of you know, I have been counting the days to college graduation (figuratively, of course) since I was 13 years old. The last few weeks, while mostly filled with excitement, have been overwhelmingly full of frustration and tears. I am worn out. Three years of nursing school are enough to wear anyone out, I think. Some days I feel like I can't do it any more - I'm just so tired of the routine. It is at that point that someone, usually my mom or a close friend, points out the fact that I am almost done. I'm almost done! In just a few weeks, all of the hard work I have put in over the past 8 years in preparation for my career as a nurse will all have paid off! The verse that the Lord has laid on my heart as I struggle to persevere through the last few weeks is Philippians 1:6: "being confident of this, that he who has begun a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." He hasn't let me down yet and I trust that He will carry me through the last few assignments.

On a happy note, I got a job! I was offered a job as a graduate nurse a couple of weeks ago. I am so thankful for all of the prayers that have been lifted to the Lord on my behalf as I struggled to discern where I was supposed to go after graduation. I can't believe I will actually be a registered nurse in a few short months. God is so good!

I have a lot of random thoughts of things that have happened lately that I would love to share, but I have lots of studying to do. So, this is all for now, but I shall blog again soon! Happy Thursday! Enjoy the rain!

He's just Beautiful

It has been a week again since I have blogged. Oh, how time runs away from me! Life continues to be interesting. I came down with a small cold this weekend, which kept me in bed for most of the morning today. I've come to the conclusion that colds are a way of telling us to slow down and rest for a while. As much as I dislike feeling ill, the break was nice and I didn't complain about the extra sleep :) I also got to help my younger brother coordinate his wardrobe for the trip he is going on this week - very much a good time! This week will send me running again. Tomorrow, thankfully, is another day of rest before my busy week begins. I shall spend the day studying, though I'm sure I will make time for a few other things in between.

Each day is a reminder to be thankful for the blessings God has bestowed upon me. Tonight at a worship service, we sang the song "You're Beautiful" by Phil Wickham. I started thinking, how often do I stop and tell my Jesus how beautiful He is? How often do I stop to thank Him for who He is and for dying for me? How often do my thoughts and my words and my actions reflect the joy with which He has so graciously showered me? I am posting the words to the song here. Take a moment to reflect upon how beautiful our Saviour is and feel Him smiling down upon you in return.

I see Your face in every sunrise
The colors of the morning are inside Your eyes
The world awakens in the light of the day
I look up to the sky and say
You're beautiful

I see Your power in the moonlit night
Where planets are in motion and galaxies are bright
We are amazed in the light of the stars
It's all proclaiming who you are
You're beautiful

I see you there hanging on a tree
You bled and then you died and then you rose again for me
Now you are sitting on Your heavenly throne
Soon we will be coming home
You're beautiful

When we arrive at eternity's shore
Where death is just a memory and tears are no more
We'll enter in as the wedding bells ring
Your bride will come together and we'll sing
You're beautiful

I see Your face, I see Your face, I see Your face
You're beautiful, You're beautiful, You're beautiful

Have a beautiful Monday!
